Vascular Surgeon in Virginia with Carilion Clinic

The Department of Surgery at Carilion Clinic – Virginia Tech Carilion School of Medicine is currently recruiting a Vascular Surgery residency or Vascular Surgery fellowship trained, Board Certified/Board Eligible Vascular Surgeon to become a valued member of the rapidly expanding Carilion Clinic Aortic Center.  The ideal candidate would possess complex endovascular and open skills including TCAR and FEVAR and will have a collaborative approach to patient care.  The clinical practice is located at Carilion Roanoke Memorial Hospital, Carilion Clinic’s 763 bed flagship facility with a dedicated Cardiovascular Institute and will include opportunities to participate in all aspects of direct patient care including reading noninvasive vascular labs, outpatient visits and procedures and inpatient consultations.  This facility currently includes two state-of-the-art hybrid operating room, two vascular OR’s, and an angiography suite. A new Cardiovascular Institute Tower is currently under construction with a completion date planned for May 2025 which will include multiple hybrid operating rooms, negative air flow angiography and catheterization suites, and modern progressive care, intermediate care and intensive care units.   This position includes a faculty appointment with the Virginia Tech Carilion School of Medicine and the surgery residency programs. Candidates are provided with extensive research opportunities through the partnership with the Fralin Biomedical Research Institute at VTC. There are also plans to develop a vascular surgery fellowship.

The Virginia Tech Carilion School of Medicine (VTCSOM)—a unique partnership between a public research university (Virginia Tech) and a private health care provider (Carilion Clinic)—is a fully accredited, four-year allopathic medical school. The school is among the first of the new generation of medical schools in the United States. While the Virginia Tech Carilion School of Medicine opened as a private school in 2010, the school became part of Virginia Tech as its ninth college on July 1, 2018.  The school’s charter class entered in August 2010 and each class averaged 42 students and now 49 students.  The innovative curriculum is divided into four domains: basic science, clinical science, research, and interprofessionalism.

Fralin Biomedical Research Institute at VTC

The Fralin Biomedical Research Institute at VTC is one of Virginia Tech’s only research institute devoted solely to biomedical research. It opened on Sept. 1, 2010, welcoming new faculty, postdoctoral fellows, students, and staff from across the United States and throughout the world. It grew rapidly to 26 research teams with more than 300 faculty, staff, and students by 2017 and over $100 million in extramural research grant funding, primarily from the National Institutes of Health.

Based in Roanoke, Virginia, the institute was designed to accommodate interdisciplinary research to address contemporary challenges in health and disease through combinations of biological, behavioral, computational, and engineering approaches.

Key research focus areas include addiction and substance abuse, behavioral health, cardiovascular science, cancer including structural oncology, cognitive and computational neuroscience, decision-making, developmental and translational neurobiology, human development, neurorehabilitation, immunology, and regenerative/restorative medicine.

The institute is the hub for the worldwide hyperscanning network for interactive human functional brain imaging, which includes three research-dedicated 3.0 Tesla MRIs, an MR-guided human-focused ultrasound system, a high-field cryo-electron microscopy facility, multiple behavioral testing suites, a transcranial magnetic stimulation facility, laser scanning confocal and multi-photon imaging systems, molecular biology and electrophysiology suites, a state-of-the-art fluorescence activated cell-sorting facility, super resolution microscopy, and a new, optically pumped magnetometry suite.
