Nicklaus Children's Hospital, a 309-bed freestanding children's hospital and its nationally recognized Brain Institute, have an exceptional opportunity for an individual with experience in the care or evaluation of children with intractable epilepsy or brain tumors and expertise in the neuroscience, neurology, or neurosurgery fields.

The candidate will be primarily responsible for performing a physician-supervised procedure called transcranial magnetic stimulation (TMS) for mapping of brain functions like movement and language. They will also be expected to learn image coregistration (using a desktop or laptop) to overlay various neuroimages into 3D computer models and present data culled from TMS mapping and the image coregistration at weekly multidisciplinary epilepsy surgery conference meetings.

Applicants with experience and/or exposure to transcranial magnetic stimulation, electrical source imaging and localization, and/or multimodal image coregistration (PhD, MD or equivalent preferred) are strongly encouraged to apply. This is a unique opportunity to work closely with experts in clinical neurophysiology, neurosurgery, and functional neuroimaging and perform several technical aspects of the preoperative neurologic evaluation and epilepsy surgery database management.

Founded in 2001, Nicklaus Children’s Hospital’s Brain Institute is the nation’s first comprehensive medical program dedicated solely to the care of the developing brain. Since 2008, the program has been ranked among the nation’s top-tier programs for pediatric neurology and neurosurgery by U.S. News & World Report. It houses the Comprehensive Epilepsy and the Neuro-Oncology Programs, which are comprised of highly trained neurosurgeons, surgical epileptologists, neurophysiologists, neuro-oncologists, neurologists, nurse practitioners, and fellows. In our Level 4 Epilepsy Center, physicians perform 50 epilepsy surgeries per year, on average and currently administer 3-5 phase I surgical evaluations weekly. The Neuro-Oncology Program performs over 35 surgeries per year.

Nicklaus Children’s Hospital is located in Miami, Florida, and offers all of the advantages of a tropical, diverse, metropolitan community. Enjoy abundant sunshine and warm weather year-round with easy access to beaches, golf courses, two international airports and sporting events.
